Change Agent

Change Agent

The HR professional plays several roles in the business. Different roles may be more or less important depending on the HR and business agenda. It is rare for the HR professional to spend extended periods in one role. Rather they are likely to engage in a particular role to achieve a key objective, therefore flexibility is key. Their overall focus is on achieving the business strategy and goals. They will use their local HR plan and agenda to further this together with any corporate wide strategy initiatives, tailored to their business.

The role of the change agent is of particular importance for HR professionals, who will be required to work together with colleagues in the business to bring about change in pursuit of the business agenda. As Change Agent your role is to actively build support for change within the business, promote the change through your own actions. This may apply when you are running your own change project, or acting as advisor to a business change project. In either situation, you are likely to also be a participant in the change, and therefore to be an effective change agent you need to be able to manage your own expectations and reactions as well as be active in bringing about the change in the business.
